Collection of 2D drawings which enables you to have a complete representation of an object is called orthographic projection.
First Angle and Third Angle are two methods orthographic projection used in technical drawing and normally comprises the three views perspectives : front, top and side. In other words, Orthographic projection is a way of drawing a 3D object from different directions. Usually front, top and side views are drawn so that a person looking at the drawing can see all the important sides.
Collection of 2D drawings which enables you to have a complete representation of an object is called orthographic projection. Collection of 2D drawings consist of six orthographic views Top, Bottom, Right, Left, Front and Back view also called as six principle views.
From these six orthographic views front, right side and top view are most commonly used to represent the orthographic projection of an object. For getting the orthographic views from a 3D object there are two main types of projections used one is First angle projection and other is Third angle projection.
Main objective of both of these projections angle is to provide detail 2D drawings of 3D object but there are some differences in the way one can get the projects by using one on these methods. Following are some of the differences between First angle and third angle projection.
Method of Projection. To start getting projection first divides the plane into four quadrants. For the first angle projection object is paced in the first quadrant and for the third angle projection object is placed is third quadrant. Object Placement. To get first angle projection object is place in between the plane of projection and observer and for the third angle projection plane of projection is placed between the object and observer. State of Projection Plane. In first angle of projection plane of projection is taken solid while in third angle of projection it is taken as transparent.
Views Sequence. In first angle projection right view come in left of front view and top view come at the bottom of front view while in third angle projection right view come on right side of front view and top view comes at the top of front view.

This is one of the most common topics of discussion in the community of mechanical engineers and designers alike. Ask any professional with a hands-on experience of design and tools, he or she will say this is nothing but the means of representing three-dimensional objects in two dimensions. First and third angle projection are nothing but ways of describing what an object looks like from different directions. This is called orthographic projection and orthographic is nothing but engineering drawings or plan views. This is one of the most common methods used to obtain engineering drawings, mostly for orthographic projections. Orthographic projection is a graphical method used to represent three-dimensional structures or objects into different perspective projection images called views.
First angle projection and third angle projection are the vocabularies of technical drawings. These are the latest standards used in engineering drawings to communicate design intent among different stockholders. In simple words, 1st angle projection and 3rd angle projection are the types of Orthographic Projection system which is used to project three-dimension objects into two-dimensional projection view. Orthographic projection works on the principle of projecting views to imaginary planes which are called reference planes. In 2D drafting, you can have two planes perpendicular to each other and normal to the human eye.
Every engineer must know how to read engineering drawings and the most integral part of this is knowing the difference between first and third angle projection. A collection of 2D drawings can be used to represent a 3D object in orthographic projection and consists of six orthographic views Top, Bottom, Right, Left, Front and Back view also known as six principle views. Out of these six, front, right side and top view are the most commonly used ones.
These planes are considered to be transparent and to be of infinite size. Hence the top view or plan of the object will be obtained below the reference line and the front view or elevation above the reference line. The aim of an engineering drawing is to convey all the necessary information of how to make the part to the manufacturing department. For most parts, the information cannot be conveyed in a single view.
First angle projection and Third angle projection are two different methods of creating a 2D drawing of a 3D part. First Angle Projection is commonly used in all countries other than United States. It is mainly used in Europe and Asia countries.
